if you grew up in the late 80s, you are old enough to remember the singular, eerie ***FIVE YEAR*** drought of Star Wars merchandising that occurred roughly after 1985 and lasted into the early 90s.
that was literally the only brief period in the past 43 years when Star Wars wasn't omnipresent as a continuous cultural/retail event.
otherwise, at any point between 1977-1985, and then between approximately 1993-2019, you could walk into a toy store/bookstore/department store, and be crushed under an avalanche of Star Wars toys. but for that one brief, blessed period when the world "forgot" about Star Wars...
