Trump was a vehicle, fine, he did some good. But fair or not Trump and the GOPe are toxic and an obstacle to building a real coalition of people, some of whom are energized by other populist positions more than race. Like I said, you can believe that the single issue of immigration is all that matters, but even to achieve that, you'd better be pragmatic.
Or just lose everything by insisting on white nationalist purity tests |

But a Bernie-supporter / Trump-supporter coalition will need to swallow some of that stuff, and let older grievances die.

Class warfare can't be "eat the rich" but it can be a 2% (or 3% or 5%) wealth tax on every estate greater than $50M.
Another version of Christianity that works as rhetoric is explicitly religious discussion of environmentalism i.e. "we are sinning against God and his creation when we pollute and fail to take responsibility for our actions and clean up after ourselves."
Another sort of phase 2 item in the policy agenda is being actually concerned about deficit spending and bringing down the national debt, but not until after we do a major infrastructure stimulus combined with trade school training subsidies to make the bottom quintile of workers less shitty and low skilled/low earning. |
