Well, there are about 643 self-described experts who will teach you how to do it if you pay them a lot of money. From all the podcasts and books I've consumed, the answer seems to be:
- hit everyone you know with regular emails containing helpful legal tips
- make regular videos on FAQs in your practice area, post them to your website, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, and repurpose it as a podcast
- speak to groups that are relevant to your practice area
- some emphasize a monthly newsletter in the mail with articles about your practice area and non-legal stuff your target audience may find interesting
- take as many of your contacts as you can to lunch, breakfast, or coffee at least quarterly; take notes after each so you remember what they are up to so you can ask questions later about their life
- have a system to solicit positive reviews from clients on your google or yelp page
- have a practice area that is not overserved in your market, know your ideal client, and let the interests of the ideal client drive your marketing
So, that's a mix of referral and direct marketing.

1. Talk to everyone you encounter every day. Literally everyone.
2. Be friendly and bring up casually that youre a lawyer.
3. Best way is to ask people what they do or where they went to school. That leads then to ask the same.
4. Tell some interesting stories about your cases. If you dont have any because youre new, make them up.
5. Give them a business card.
6. Repeat 10x a day
7. When you get a case do great work, be available for the client, and always be nice to them.
8. Make millions.
This is a numbers game just like fucking girls. Also people prefer to hire people they have met before so in person marketing gives you a huge advantage.
