As a kid I used to seek these places out and hang out inside with my Walkman. Just the other day I was hiking upstate and stopped at a ruined estate to just soak it all in. There’s something so serene and consoling about it, like returning home to a place you’ve always known but have never actually been.

i like this too. i also absolutely love visiting sleepy small towns in flyover america that still have the same old buildings that were built 100 years ago. it gives me that same warm feeling. love walking down the "Main Street" and seeing everything more or less as it was back then

this is what i'm talking about (although these buildings have clearly been restored and are in good shape now) https://catholicrurallife.org/wp-content/uploads/Main_Street_Bldg_Chesterton_IN_2012.jpg

I visited a ghost town that was abandoned only like 15 years prior. Had about 8 houses and even a tiny church, a bombed out little school bus etc. Very eerie and thought-provoking

Its not just you. Every Romantic has a sense of awe in front of ruin as a evocation of past days:

The ruins are just newer now.
