Realistic ways to achieve ~20% annually through a combination of capital & work? We generally know what worked in the past, but what about going forward? Possible ideas:

-buying businesses from retiring boomers private-equity style

-buying stocks after next crash

-online education

What else?

Real estate in slower markets will give you that kind of return every year if you buy it right.

I’d say that would be my top pick.

It is still going to be a type of job, even if you have a good manager, but very little investments exist without some effort and that return profile

Stocks are probably the easiest way. However, that requires that you really know what the hell your doing extremely well.

The reason I say stocks is probably the easiest way is because 1-2 stocks in your entire portfolio could result in 1000%+ returns over a 10-20 year period and lead to an average of 20% returns even after factoring in other stocks in your portfolio that may not have done well. The hard part is identifying the ones most likely to do that.

THIS IS NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE. ALWAYS CONSULT WITH YOUR FINANCIAL ADVISOR PRIOR TO MAKING ANY INVESTMENT DECISIONS.

20% for 10+ years in publicly traded stocks is extremely difficult. However lots of guys seem to do this with a private business that grows at 20-30% and they sell for 50 million

Extremely difficult? It's difficult, but I'm not sure extremely is the right word here. All it really takes is 1-2 stocks in your portfolio and the 1000%+ return on those 1-2 investments will carry the rest of the portfolio.

For example, those who bought Amazon when it was under $20 probably have made an annual average of 20%+ returns on their portfolios over the course of 15-20 years.
