IN MY NOT SO HUMBLE OPINION, THESE HERE BE THE TOP TEN METALLICA ALBUMS:
1) RELOAD
2) MASTER OF PUPPETS
3) RIDE THE LIGHTNING
4) LULU
5) KILL 'EM ALL
6) BLACK ALBUM
7) LOAD
8) GARAGE INC.
9) ST. ANGER
10) S&M
...AND JUSTICE FOR ALL NOT IN TOP 20.

Puppets is the best of the classic era because it doesn't have a single misfire. Lightning and Puppets are the best mix thematically, KEA is like Trolling in a sense, Justice is serious/pretentious. Like internet posters say, though, "it's all down to personal preference."
Load is basiclly on par with Black. Both are a lot of songs that are meant to be played live or on the radio that you wouldn't care to listen to on an "album" for 60 minutes straight like some musically-obsessed Loser. I like the Not Caringness of Load, they had enough fuck-you money to not even pretend to play metal anymore, it's 180 imho.
The stuff from this century is just kind of boring, as though they are Entertainers writing Heavy metal music in order to Enterain proles and enrich themselves and pay alimony, like a Business of sorts.
