The old system of employed adults paying tax revenue to public universities, and those universities having no other options but to run off that money, kept it affordable for those who could do it and didn't flood the job market for everyone else.
But yeah I guess I am okay with forgiving the loans, it was a shitty situation for them. |

If poaster A paid off his student loans, he wants to feel good about that choice, and so poaster B should have to pay of his loans. I used to feel this way back 9-10 years ago when all of the IBR and PSLF stuff was coming out because I thought that it was unfair. I paid my loans, why shouldn’t they? Now, I genuinely do not care about this issue at all. I saved a lot of money by paying my loans and these new proposals wouldn’t help me at all. Also, there’s no reason not to help people in hard times. I have realized that I am not mad at young professionals with student loans. I am mad at rich boomer fucks that have ruined this country, and the world, and have literally traded thousands of corpses piling up in the streets for a 6,000 square foot McMansion and a couple of Cadillacs in the driveway.

a related point is that student debtors on average are far from the neediest category of americans. it ranges from urban minorities who got fucked by schools like thomas jefferson law to upper middle class coastals with tight-fisted boomer parents. so we need to be very targeted about who we give relief. |

There should be at least some consequences to taking huge amounts of student loans that you aren't paying back.
I will not care if at least they pay back all the payments those of us that were responsible and paid them back after working hard for years to do so. I can't object to over $300k in refunds. |
