They were mocked by GC so they became uncool. Instead of a $25,000 minivan, people spent $45,000 on an SUV that got worse gas mileage and was more of a pain in the ass to load up with kids.

Also, family size as a whole is declining so that is another big factor.

It is extremely easy to find an awd Sienna now that they make it at every trim level. Agree that it's otherwise not as nice as the odyssey and pacifica but it's nice enough and the other 2 don't come in awd.

False presupposition is easy. "When did you stop beating your wife?" presupposes you had a wife, you were beating her, and you stopped. "Why have minivans lost their prestige?" presupposes that minivans had prestige and lost it. Those would all also be "complex questions" or plurium interrogationum. But false presuppositions can exist outside of questions, too ("You scare your children with your misshapen little mushroom dick.").

Begging the question is circular reasoning, whereas there doesn't have to be anything circular about a false presupposition. "The Bible is true because the Book of John says so" begs the question by using an assumption of the Bible's truth to establish the Bible's truth. Begging the question can have different degrees of complexity, but the key is that a premise relies on the conclusion.

You have to have an argument for begging the question, a linking of premises and conclusions where a premise contains the conclusion or at least part of it.

You can have false presuppositions in many contexts: questions, statements, larger arguments.

Neither of your question examples is begging the question. There's no argument.

They're great. The dilemma we face is it's hard to justify a van as the car we take to work day in and day out when it's just me or my wife by ourselves. It's a) not fun to drive, b) not great on gas, and c) not as 'cool' as an SUV to show your boss or coworkers (though I barely give a shit about this, it matters more to my wife). So we've thought about just having three cars, idk.

Oh for sure.

Last summer we were down at the beach and went to this crowded seaside family restaurant. Parking lot was packed. Finally snuck into a spot and proceeded to unload all of the kids plus the stroller and a car seat. We were like half of a softball team rolling up to wreck some fried soft shell crab and what not.

With 3 you can get away with a Highlander type SUV if 1 of the kids is out of a car seat or can get in and out of the 3rd row himself.

This is one of the dumbest things that I have ever read. Minivans are designed so much better than SUVs for all of the ordinary things you need to do with kids. You can get a Christmas Tree in there. You can move your kids into college. You can haul around all they other crap they have for a camping trip. You can do this you can do that.

SUVs are literal shit. They sit too high up from the road, feel top-heavy, have shit cargo space. They're hard to get in and out of.

I mean, if you're chasing down border jumpers on the dirt ranch roads of South Texas, then maybe an SUV type suspension is helpful. But for any normal application? lol, no.

Probably the autist in me but who gives a shit about the image that your car gives?

All that matters is capabilities. While you’re driving the car, you can’t look at it from the outside like it’s a video game. You’re looking out from inside the car.

Also I had a rental minivan and everyone attempts to pass you or block you from merging because they think you are going to drive 10 under the speed limit so image does sort of matter

Honda odysseys used to come with some bespoke rims that only fit tires made by one company. That’s why so many 2000s odysseys have aftermarket wheels
