Pc part picker is good for comparison shopping prices. There are lots of good YouTube videos taking about how to assemble all the components and put them in the case.

https://www.logicalincrements.com/

Has lots of suggested builds at each price point, it's kept updated so it reflects what is currently available.

Here is a bunch of links from the pc building reddit. Probably some useful stuff in there.

Get either a Ryzen 7 3700X or i9 9900K/10900K, either a 5700 XT or RTX 2070 Super (or better), and a 1440p 144 Hz monitor with Gsync/Freesync

Those are the latest upper-midrange processors, graphics cards, and monitor respectively.

For the first time in years, AMD's processors are competitive with Intel's for gaming. AMD's Ryzen 3700X is 8 cores and 16 threads (8c/16t) and is significantly cheaper than Intel's 8c/16t i9 9900K. The i9 has marginally better single-core performance; if you want the absolute best gaming performance get an i9, but the difference is marginal at best and not worth it IMO. If you want more cores/threads, get the 12c/24t Ryzen 3900X or the monstrous 16c/32t Ryzen 3950X. Games will NOT be able to use all those cores, however, so more than 8c/16t is only noticeable if you do video editing or run other highly multi-threaded applications. In sum: 3700X is the best value; i9 for marginal improvement in single-threaded applications (most games); 3900X/3950X for improvement in highly multi-threaded applications.

The graphics card is almost always the bottleneck with gaming PCs, especially at 1440p or 4K resolution. The 5700 XT and 2070 Super are AMD and nVidia's best price-to-performance cards, respectively. You can get a 2080 Super ($$$) or 2080 Ti ($$$$) for even better performance.

Finally, if you get a nice gaming PC, you want a monitor that can take advantage of the powerful PC hardware. The higher the resolution you game at, the better the visuals, but the lower your frame rate. In general, you want at least 60 fps for a smooth experience; more is better, but there are diminishing returns with higher frame rates.

4K resolution is beautiful, but even the 2080 Ti struggles to consistently render 60 fps at that resolution. On the other extreme, professional CS:GO players play at 1080p/240+ Hz because pushing frame rate as high as it can go gives some people a competitive advantage in first-person shooters. I personally can't tell the difference between 150 and 200 fps, however.

IMO, that makes 1440p/144 Hz the sweet spot for gaming right now. Most new high-end graphics cards can spit out 80+ fps at 1440p on the latest AAA games, making it the ideal gaming resolution. You want a 144 Hz monitor, instead of a basic 60 Hz, so that you can experience more than 60 fps.

At 1080p, you should get 120+ fps with an i5 10600K or Ryzen 5 3600X (or better), paired with an RTX 2060 Super or better.

At 1440p, you should get 120+ fps with those processors paired with an RTX 2070 Super or better.

You can do a lot better for that money.

The power supply is overkill. You need maybe 500 to 600w. The 3700x pulls at most 150w, the 2700S about 200w max. The rest of the parts draw minimal power.

The heatsink is also overkill. It would make sense if you're going for a quiet build, but that case screams NOISE. The 3700x already comes with one. Or get a basic Hsf and use the money to upgrade parts that actually affect performance.

Also, why get a 570x mobo and not get a pcie4 ssd? The pcie4 and upgradability to the next gen ryzen are about the only reasons to get x570.

Your mobo also seems about $50 too high.

Here's the same computer for $1400 (or you can use the money for more baller upgrades to cpu or gpu)

The 3700x already comes with a VERY good hsf. For Windows, reuse an old key, or buy a student license. They should be cheap.

Assuming they're decent fans, you do not need more. You might not even need all 3.

For the most part, power supplies work or they dont. Unless you're building for aesthetics, most any decent ps will work. You're just wasting money getting a ps that's mismatched for your system.

That site looks like they're doing hard upselling on power supply and case (and probably heatsinks).

A 750w ps for a 3700x and 2070S that physically cannot exceed about 450w?

That 750w is about $100 too expensive.

A case that costs $170 for this build? That's ridiculous.

They should mention that ryzen cpus already come with very decent Hsf.

This is horrible timing to build a new PC.

In the next 3 months, AMD will launch its next generation of CPUs and both AMD and NVDA will launch their next generation of GPUs.

Wait 3 months and either pay 33% less for what you're building now or get 33% better performance for the same money.

Not right now.

The only thing that can come close to saturating PCIE right now is extreme data transfer, like maxing our your gen4 NVME drive with huge sequential reads and writes. A GPU just doesn’t move enough data.

I’d guess it will be several years before most use cases can claim a

Noticeable benefit from 4.0.

what i found was that just browsing slickdeals and newegg newsletter deals for a couple of months you could expect to see some good deal on every single part you need.

and so you end up being more flexible. you are opportunistic.

you really just need to coordinate the cpu, motherboard and maybe the ram if you pay for high end specs.

So just start looking for like a big pci-e SSD, some cpu and motherboard deals. While keeping on eye out for cheap ram and a HDD and CPU air cooler.

You probably can get a good monitor and graphics card on craigslist--as those are upgraded so often now it may be better to go that route.
