I think part of it is that EDM was really built around festivals and nightclubs, which of course don't really exist right now.

Also, I do like it, but a lot of it sounds the same. And regarding Chainsmokers, it did not help that Drew Taggart decided that he should start singing.

Chainsmokers were only barely EDM, too. They were much closer to standard pop with electronica beats. Stuff like Aoki or Martin Garrix have definitely been on the decline for a while.

I do think "Roses" has one of the best drops out there.

If you're interested in the genre generally, I'd highly recommend Parov Stelar and other electroswing artists. 1920s jazz layered over electronica.
