True, there are some restaurant experiences that are truly exceptional.
I hardly ever had those experiences though. Like, maybe once every 2 years.
Even going for lunch, I would go to a shitty places and it always sucked.
But yes, if everything is done very well, a sit down restaurant can be a good experience that cannot be replicated at home.

I don't but I have two toddlers. Yet I'm not a vain boomer so I realize things shouldn't be closed just because I don't use them.
I imagine if you're a 22 year old kid this whole things sucks.

Burgers also benefit massively from a little extra effort, which your average burger place is not putting in. I like to add breadcrumbs, soy sauce, ginger powder, and some sriracha. It's one fucking eighty. I can't imagine paying $20 for a burger at some random pub. By contrast, I just cannot make Thai or Chinese on my own, and while I've done dumplings, the time just isn't worth the effort compared to getting them from a place that's preparing in bulk.
I've made homemade french fries but it's too much of a pain in the ass compared to just buying some frozen waffle fries. Tossing some potato wedges in the oven with some olive oil is pretty awesome, though.

I miss going to bars.
There's a big patio bar near me that I go to all the time now. Its basically outside.
I went to a normal bar two weekends ago that was inside and it really was kind of weird being around that many people. I left to get on the patio

Okay. For you and people like you, here is my question:
Do you think you were going to bars too much before?
Do you want to return to going out to bars at the same frequency as you did before this pandemic?
Has the experience of the shutdowns encouraged you to rethink some of your experience consumption?

1. I don't think I was going to bars too much before. Usually I was going twice a weekend, sometimes once a weekend but I was doing something with friends the other night, and not really going out much during the week. Although I did have the occasional Wednesday or Thursday night drink out. But especially fridays, the last thing I wanted to do after a long week at work was to stay home.
2. Since my frequency wasn't particularly high before compared to most social people, I doubt my frequency will change much after this. Or maybe it will a little since I live in walking distance of a few bars now where before I had to uber all the time
3. The only thing I thought about was that I hate drinking alone at home. I wasn't getting blackout drunk on the nights that I went out before either.
I will admit that it is nice to be able to wake up on a saturday and not feel groggy and have major beer shits, and then be able to go on a run or something before lunch. But when this happens, I inevitably will start drinking early in the day after I do a run.

A lot of times it Is easier to make a meal for yourself than all of the bullshit of getting dressed, going out, sitting down, ordering, waiting, eating, coming home. Meal can be made, dishes washed, and you’re back to billing hours in 1/3 the time/effort as pre-pandemic.

bro i just roll out to restaurants w/ full biker beard, in basketball shorts, a sleeveless shirt and a flat-brimmed hat. no one gives a fuck anymore. literally takes no preparation to go to a mid-range or lower restaurant, and you don't even have to drive that far if you're in a downtown area.
as for waiting, i'll just talk to my friend(s)/gf and if i'm alone i'll order ahead and if i MUST wait by myself i'll just crush it on duolingo bro.

I'm a once a week regular at a shitty bar with cheap beer and good wings. I miss that. A nice cocktail before or after a good meal is enjoyable. I can make my own steak or roast a chicken no sweat but as others have said there is some fancy or ethnic food that's not really practical to make at home.
So yeah, I miss it, but I suspect we'd eat out maybe half a often as before if virus disappeared tomorrow.

Restaurants, no. Because I mostly just go to them with my wife because she wants to.
Bars, yes -- although even before COVID I was going to them much less than I used to because I'm nearing my mid-30s and that's kind of what happens.

Never went to bars and only get casual takeout 90% of the time anyway. Life is great and corona just vindicated everything I was doing beforehand. I want things to stay this way forever
