i guess it depends on what you mean by prole. broke 20somethings and singles can span the spectrum, so yeah you definitely get some sketchy proles in tj's. also, as you indicated about Walmart, some people go to tj's for practicality...they have some decent frozen food that's cheap.

in terms of your average person shopping though places like Walmart and Winco are way more prole.

Anything you don't make yourself is GC flame but sometimes you just want to toss some stuff in the oven and then lay on the couch. It's better than takeout (as long as you're not on a low-sodium diet). And bear in mind that we're on a bort where people were making fun of other people for making their own pizza.

It's in the middle. They do have a pretty decent selection of supermarket-style fresh foods and produce (though most of it is shitty). But it's also almost all own-brand products. You could definitely do most of your shopping there if you wanted to.

No. It's the same family, but separate companies and neither side speaks to the other. Also, TJ's was started independently and then bought by one of the Albrecht brothers.

Well same business model anyway. Neither do any advertising and they carry house brands almost exclusively. This cuts down on the kikery and allows them to charge lower prices while still making a hefty profit.

I love Trader Joe's. It's fairly cheap and has natural-ish stuff. It's not as uppity as the old Whole Foods but you're still getting snacks that are chocolate covered peanut butter instead of stuff like Oreos at a normal grocery store. I'm not saying TJs food is healthy, but you can at least tell what it is vs the average grocery aisle which is all cheTmicals.

On the topic, I went to a Whole Foods recently and that place was a dystopian shitshow. Just piles of Alexas intermixed with bananas and tons of zombie personal shoppers running around. To me it is clearly the worst grocery store now.

I think youre just mad that normal people go to places like Walmart and piggly wiggly to get food or water or beach balls for their family trip to the beach at a decent price like normal intelligent adults and you shop at some gross mass-marketed supermarket chain that has convinced you youre sophisticated for getting frozen babaganoush.

This is a pretty dumb thread. TJ’s is a bad option for one stop grocery shopping but has some quality items, and those are often sold at or near their very lowest price points anywhere.

In the 1990s, Trader Joe’s was 180 as fuck. I remember when the first Trader Joe’s came to town and my parents loved it because it was the only place in town that had a good wine and cheese selection, and no other grocery store regularly sold Royal Stilton, which my dad loved.

I never really visited a TJ’s between 2000 and 2015, but when I was shocked when I found out TJ’s was the bargain grocery store in Manhattan. I was kind of pumped at first, but then I actually went to TJ’s e few blocks away and the line was through the store, and the quality was awful. It was nothing compared to what the 1990s version was.

TJ’s seems to target overeducated and underemployed people in their 20s and 30s who want cheap food that appears, on the surface, to be either healthy or sophisticated. A broke shrew can go and pick up a bottle of two buck chuck, some generic brie, and a box of pita chips for a dinner party with her grad school friends. Real proles, the kind that have criminal records and never went to college, shop at places like a Food Lion or a Wal Mart.

So much of their food is flavorless or just tastes like shit that I have to wonder how it even wound on the shelf to begin with. Other items are so 180 that I will go there specifically to buy them.
