No reason to get rid of what you have unless it's West German and you don't care and can sell it to a panicked idiot on gunbroker for a profit. The DA/SA is nice for not shooting oneself imo but opinions vary.

I came ITT to poast exactly this. I haven't read the remainder of this thread, but I know it will contain poasts (from the same poaster? sockpuppets?) saying that you need an AR with red dot or a tactical shotgun (weird... and it's also weird that I've never seen him specify the load of shot to use, which I would expect as someone who hunts with shotguns). This is silly; your uses will be (1) to kill someone 0-10 feet away; or (2) to scare away someone by taking a potshot at him from the stairs down into the kitchen or whatever.

two guys with AR15s approach your home through the front and back doors. good luck.

you need a short-barreled auto shotgun for proper home defense.

You're fucked anyway if that happens. And why on earth are two guys with AR15s approaching your home?

I have a PPK/S just because I like how it carries versus the Glock (shorter barrel, in particular), but if you get to the point where the specific gun type matters, you have bigger problems.

M&P 9 2.0 is probably the best commonly available striker fired polymer pistol on the market today. That or the CZ P10F - both have proven track records and are issued to police and militaries the world over.

M&Ps are decent and can be found for reasonable prices unlike some others.

VP9 failed a rudimentary mud test, the P320 had the drop firing problem, PPQ has funky controls and the FN 509 might actually also be a good option because it's not mentioned often.

No, you need a stock

Those pistol grip shotguns are designed to be used just like in the picture, with frangible rounds to shoot the lock or hinges off a door for an entry team. The man equipped with one is either not entering the building, or switching back over to his rifle after breaching the door and slinging the shotgun (which is why it has a short barrel and no stock)

This is the one you want:

I'm single and don't have kids, but I'll give you the shotgun point -- they have stopping power but also won't penetrate walls, so you don't risk accidentally hitting someone else. But at the same time, I don't view a shotgun as "more" than a handgun; I just meant that you don't need a Desert Eagle versus a basis Glock or Sig.

Yes they do penetrate walls. Any centerfire/shotgun caliber will pierce several if not dozens of layers of drywall. There are all kinds of youtube videos on this

shotguns are cr because you can get a decent one for like $300 and it'll work. Also can shoot clays etc which is entertaining.

Mossberg is quality btw, the military uses the 590.

Also, quality control on *a* AR15 isn't guaranteed whereas a Glock is a Glock. Next round will probably cycle and so forth.

This is hilarious flame, an AR-15 from a reputable brand is absolutely as reliable as any given glock off the factory floor. Shoot a few magazines through anything and you will be able to weed out the infant mortalities to send back to the factory for repairs.

The average homeowner would be best served by a long gun of some kind - either an AR-15 pattern rifle or a semi auto shotgun. If you are stuck owning only one firearm, a glock 19 makes sense since you can ccw it also - but it's not ideal.

For a dual-purpose gun I'd rather have the extra weight and capacity in a home defense role and sacrifice the concealability. Having a 33 round backup magazine is just such a big advantage over tiny pink 10 rounder.

The average person spends a lot more time at home than out and about, so the extra rounds and the capacity to attach a flashlight and RDS maybe even a compensator or silencer all make more sense.

Who is currently working 40 hours a week face to face in COVID clown world?

I personally CCW a shield because it hides better, but OP is asking about a dual purpose gun. I would not want to use my shield to do anything other than fight my way to a rifle in a home defense situation. That's why it sits in my office, while I keep my scary black guns in my bedroom.

Fair enough. I still go to work though and none of my staff wanted to work remotely. I guess we are weird.

If you literally think you'll use a gun, suppressors are tcr which all but rules out shotguns, no reason to blow out your loved ones' eardrums.

A lot of guns these days are just way bigger than they are "sold" as. The Ruger LCP is roughly PPK sized which is perfect. Everything else is bigger. i.e. fuck the Glock 19/48/43 for ccw.

TCR IMO in this order:

1. Shotgun e.g. Mossberg 500 - home (~$300)

2. Small af handgun - LCP etc - ccw (~$300)

3. Go the rest of your life without shooting anyone

4. If you still have an itch to scratch, get an AR+suppressor.

5. I still don't see a place for a Glock et al imo unless you are serious about CCW and dressing around guns. Also 1+2 combined cost about the same as a Glock.

A "small af handgun" will suck compared to a Glock. If you're getting 1 handgun why would you get a shitty one? The rest of your post didn't make much sense either. Why do you need a suppressor for an AR-15? You realize they have these things you can use to cover your ears? Also there is a suppressor for shotguns.

I mean for shooting people in your house. Do you think people reach for their ear plugs before shooting intruders lol.

The LCP-class guns aren't bad to shoot at all and are surprisingly easy to shoot well. They use a short recoil action like a Glock and most handguns, so recoil is less than something like a Makarov despite the smaller size. The main thing that really "sucks" is the ammo. Modern ammo performs better than commonly perceived (even 9mm sucked in the 90s which is why .40 was developed). 380 still sucks but not as much as is thought imho. But everyone still needs a pocket gun like this if they actually carry every day, and they are cheap af, not even $300 a lot of times, more like $250.

If you're serious about carrying irl and shooting/killing people and will dress around it then a 9mm is probably the way to go imho which is why I addressed that point, champ.

I see what you're saying. Get 1 relatively sps small af handgun, become an expert with it and make it your only gun + get a conceal permit. Brutally efficient and spend the least amount of $ possible. I don't think anyone has ever done that in history though.

$246. You basically can't not get one imo. https://www.hinterlandoutfitters.com/ruger-lightweight-compact-pistol-3701-actn-only-polymer-grips-fixed-sights-blue-finish-p-22131.html

The size difference is just staggering. One of these will fit in your pocket and not even print, the other weighs 2 pounds loaded which is the same as an unloaded Colt Commander, i.e. it will probably sag your belt before we even talk about printing.

My wife has been on my ass to get a CCW permit and get a handgun soon. What is the best, cheapest handgun to buy? I want a revolver since I don't want to clean it.

You will absolutely still have to clean a revolver, get something from 2020, not 1840 so you can at least fire more than 5 rounds and attach a light and night sights.

Revolvers can actually be complete shit to clean, worse than any semi. Depending on the model/ammo/cylinder gap, lead gets all but burned into the cylinder after like 50 shits and it can't be cleaned off with normal cleaning products, and looks dirty as hell. None of this matter for the most part except for looks though. Cleaning in general is overrated though imo for any gun.

See link above for cheapest/good enough imo.

Yeah just get a semi. I have a PPK/S but anything in that family will be fine.

Whether it's worth it to get a CCW depends on your state. I'm in a shall-issue state so it's just a course (which I think is worthwhile, same as with a drivers license) and some paperwork. NYC would be a different story, it's almost impossible to even get a carry permit.

I just want to point out that I at least respect that your wife is smart enough to press you to do your job rather than some ridiculous shitlib that is scared of guns and expects her appeasement strategy to work.

Holy shit, you're a real poster? I just hear azns/pumos talking about you constantly, didn't know you existed.

Does your state have a Strict List of allowed firearms or what?

There’s a few lunatics who follow me around. Yeah there’s a strict list and I think the only way to buy a Glock is a private sale from a LEO

I’ll take that trade.

Also, I can load 38 special into it if I want. I have some 38 special hollow point. With the lower recoil and the hollow tips those might actually be better. What do you advise?
