I made the drive the other day and it was a little more than 2 and a half hours. No traffic but still. Why don’t more people move there if it’s cheaper then drive to NYC or at least live on the outskirts or in PA and commute? I know a bro who lived in NYC and commuted to Albany and it was very do-able.

how fast were you driving that you made it in 2.5 hours?

i know a bunch of people live in philly/south jersey and commute, but baltimore sounds nuts. even if you're speeding and there's no traffic it's about 1.5 hours to philly.

I was going like 85 most of the way but it was with traffic. I was also driving to the south so it might have felt short bc in my mind it was a short stretch of a 14 hour drive.

Annapolis is a different ballgame because you need to take some side roads. Baltimore is straight 95.

not only do you save money based on location, but you can also buy a much cheaper house generally. who cares about a gym, home theater, etc. if you only spend one waking hour a day there? power lifehack.

You actually could do this if you worked near penn station and commuted on amtrak. About 2 hours each way, which you could spend online. Lol at doing it in a car though.

I know a guy who lives in rural Maryland northwest of Baltimore and works in MFH biglaw as of-counsel. His wife works locally in Maryland as a nurse.

He was able to buy four acres of land and a big house for less than $1m out there. He built a helipad and commutes by helicopter from his backyard to the 30th Street Heliport (or at least he did prior to COVID). He doesn't own the helicopter, but he has some yearly arrangement with the charter company to do this roundtrip flight each day.

Apparently with the cost of living/tax savings, it nearly pays for itself.

Bus from DC to NYC takes about 4-4.5 hours so driving your own car Baltimore to NYC should be <3 no problem. Lol @ that commute though.

I'd maybe do Acela express regularly but that would cost a shit ton and probably outweigh any housing saving.

But most CR is to live in Harper's Ferry and work in DC.

When Amtrak completes its new hi speed trains in 2022, the new train will run at about 150 mph (faster than Acela) and will make the commute from Philadelphia to NYC in 39 minutes.

Connecting BosWash with a genuine bullet style train would reap so much economic reward it's insane, but still our busiest corridor of some of our richest cities are connected by overpriced, slow trains.
