i imagine securing the loan is much less risky with a house than with a car. the bank ensures adequate insurance on mortgaged homes, and they never up and disappear.

riskier asset and riskier owners. you can't steal a house or destroy it while texting.

you can switch out VINs and repaint a car, then sell it across the country...not so easy to do with a house.

They aren't lower with good credit. You can get an auto loan for less than the cheapest 15 yr mortgages.

If you extrapolate the rates out, it's clear that a 15 yr auto loan (if it existed) would be at a higher rate than a 15 yr mortgage, but that's explainable by the differing quality of security (rapidly depreciating asset vs slowly appreciating asset).

are u seriously asking why an unmovable appreciating asset like a house gets a lower interest rate and is deemed lower risk than a depreciating asset that u literally drivde everywhere?

holy fuck xoxo 2020

What are you asking for an explanation about, how our political system sets interest rates on government loans?

My most recent auto loan was at 3%

Current mortgage rates for a 15 year fixed are around ~2.5% or so

It's not materially higher unless you are a bad credit
