ETFs are generally cheaper and honestly, just easier to follow.

It doesn't matter. I looked into this and the tax advantages of ETFs are pretty minor. Mutual funds are harder to trade so I like them for longer term if you are the kind of person who wants to trade and buy crypto.

You need to do a LOT of research to make sure that a mutual fund isn't killing you with fees. They have way more tricks to sneak fees into the fine print than ETF providers do.

This won't be a problem if you are with vanguard or fidelity and just buying the big name market indexes

Here's the fee sheet on Fidelity's contrafund. 0.85% MER... gross. And being a mutual fund you never know whether they have hidden sales commissions that you won't see unless you read the 5 million page prospectus. https://fundresearch.fidelity.com/mutual-funds/fees-and-prices/316071109

fees are ultra-low (0.04%), can't vouch for the quality of the holdings as I haven't read much about it

Literally just tracks the total US stock market benchmark. It's the mutual fund version of VTI

https://investor.vanguard.com/mutual-funds/profile/VTSAX

At the end of the day, Vanguard has no shareholders so it is not incentivized to make money

And here are the fees for the funds that I was referring to:

FXAIX (s&p 500) - .015%

FSKAX (total us) - .015%

FTIHX (total intl) - .06%

That's what I have. If you run out of tax-advantaged account space and still need to buy bonds, I'd use VTEB for the tax advantaged dividends

https://investor.vanguard.com/etf/profile/overview/vteb

Be disciplined and rebalance from bonds to equities opportunistically (say, when the market drops 15% in a month) and you'll outperform probably 95%+ of active management for a fraction of the fees they charge
