Mercadolibre (amazon of latin america) reported blowout perfect earnings on Monday and still fell 5%. Mercado had also had a big runup in price the past few months, though nothing like jmia's. Figured, it was the same people buying into a covid e-commerce play and expecting way, way too much out of these upstarts. I knew jmia had no chance.
I still think there has to be some value in a company that can generate that kind of internet traffic in major African countries, especially nigeria. If they can slow the cash burn and survive for a few more years wouldn't a big player buy them out for the brand?

You are going to have periodic selloffs that will hit to allow a new wave of price discovery. It is the nature of long term holding with any high quality company.
If you really believe in the company and the management it is a good opportunity to buy more - some stocks stay low for a long time relative to what the business is actually doing - particularly if the management is good.
I have one company that I bought in the single digits (well below $10 per share) and I've seen it go down 30-40% multiple times over the years, get hit with short seller reports (all baseless), bear raids etc - it hasn't mattered and now its closer to $100 per share. |

Date: August 12th, 2020 1:55 PM Author: Coral forum macaca I was the same way before I became insanely focused on how the business is doing relative to the stock price - I also became ruthless in making sure management either founded the business or owns a large amount of the common stock themselves and isn't getting paid excessively. I look at a few other metrics as well in order to filter down to like 200 stocks and even then I make mistakes, but it helps get the batting average higher.
If you can calculate how much the business is worth on a per share basis and it is significantly less than the stock price you are in good shape IMO, that is your margin of safety. |
