Everything is sugarcoated. Do people just not find it interesting to have realistic villains? Imagine a series about Kamala's rise to power or something where she just does Bad Things for like 100 episodes. Or someone more interesting like George HW Bush in the CIA just doing all of the shit that Noam Chomsky says that he did. Or just a series about a Scumbag who commits domestic violence.
There is a "Degree" of evil that we only allow ourselves to believe exists in Hitler himself that is basically incredibly pervasive irl, and no one cares.
