Basically since March AR15 ammunition is $0.40/round, no uppers, lowers, or parts kits are in stock, and if you want any gun, you have to pay 2x retail on gunbroker.com.

Why don't these guys just increase production?

Because demand craters when an R wins election and these companies go bankrupt due to all the vacant assembly lines.

Same with any other boom bust commodity industry

Firearms/ammo sales as a whole must have spiked a lot in the last decade, and it feels "permanent" until there are Laws passed restricting gun ownership.

Really what it looks to me is that it's not so much a boom/bust situation, but a "secular" uptrend where they don't add capacity just to accommodate these little panic buy spurts, so we get these shortages now and then.

The gun industry went into a terrible slump in the first years of the Trump admin

And yes, why would you expand capacity for what is viewed as a one time demand bump?

Is that really what happened. Was there really a slump or did it just revert to whatever it was in, say, 2014 after a rush of panic buying? Freedom Arms/Remington went bankrupt but they sucked imo.

The issue is a reset to 2014 levels after companies expanded production capacity from 2014-2016 is pretty terrible for said companies

The low price of 9mm in the last couple of years is a canary in the coal mind for what you're talking about, no other way to explain it being so much cheaper than .380.

Still I can't believe the apparent volatility in IRl ammo buying. All I see are new guns coming out every year, new gimmicks (reflex sights on pistols), libs buying guns now, and the list goes on. People must be going to the range once and never again imho.

DHS bought billions of rounds of ammo and the Obama admin increased regulations on the production of raw materials. Thankfully some of this got rolled back under Trump:

9mm is insanely expensive. I get flamed to hell in ALL firearms threads so I am probably wrong somehow, but the meme or having several guns in the same caliber (or even using the same magazines) needs to die. You can still get .40 or .45 like it's nbd atm.

Was trying to buy another Glock and they are sold out EVERYWHERE. Lady at the company said they're making 10k of them/month but they are sold pretty much instantly.
