Agree, although I think it's far more common for the drummer to fill that role. The song is the anomaly here.

Seems like music dorks argue over what the time signature is. Can you really say for certain what every song is?

To be fair,

Usually, but not always simply from listening to it. (Always yes if the composer authoritatively notates it in score and thereby clears up any aural ambiguities that could otherwise be heard to operate in a few different ways.) Ex: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MdZSOoOF5Ms

I know you're more into classic, but I've heard tool nerds analyze the drumming and they'll say things like, "these hemiolas create a 3/4 feel" or something like that. You're saying that you can look at a certain segment and say for certain? Is it different with percussion where they can just make random noises that fall outside of a definite time signature? Like a little arrhythmic section?

To be fair,

I think the video does a good job of addressing what an “ambiguity” looks like in this sort of context.

To be fair,

Whole song in an irregular meter, or does it count if only part of the song is in an irregular meter? If the latter, does it still count if only one instrument in the band (ie, the drums but not the rest) moves into the irregular meter? This changes the answer significantly.
