1. on the one hand, it's obviously dumb to pay thousands to "own" a highlight that's freely available on YouTube.
2. on the other hand, there are like 100K ppl in line for 10K packs and the nba hasnt even really started hyping this yet, presumably bc the site always crashes, other than having some players tweet about it.
right now, im happy just going the low risk route and flipping packs. id feel very dumb buying up a bunch of moments and watching the market suddenly crash. my friend from work--a guy who wins at everything--has a portfolio of at least like $10k in moments for sale. has already made thousands. |

they're like virtual basketball cards. they show one highlight each. go to the marketplace and click on some random moments to see what they are. You can also buy individual moments on there if you want.
they'll usually send out an email the night before/sometimes just a few hours prior to a drop. you just get into the queue at the assigned time and hope your random # is high enough to get a pack.
supposedly they're going to release the third set of "Cool Cats" relatively soon |

my friend who owns a lot of these and has made a lot recommended the site evaluate.market
anticipating price changes for a particular card--and how to value various serial numbers vs. others--seems difficult.
if you get lucky and get a pack, youre basically guaranteed to be able to flip for profit. that's all ive been doing to date. got a durant, priced it as the cheapest for that moment, and sold it for like $500 within 30 mins.
with each pack, theres a non-zero chance you get like a giannis #34 (his jersey #) that will command a huge premium.

i think common cards they may still mint more of.

then price goes down as serial # increases.
again, i agree it's crazy, but there are 100K ppl in line to buy these things on a site that crashes constantly and effectively doesnt even allow withdrawals at this point bc theyre so overwhelmed. and this is with the nba having done virtually no marketing im aware of.
a few players have tweeted out like "give me the scoop on topshot" (rozier, josh hart, mccollum, melo, etc), but thats all the real publicity it's gotten. |
