this is why retail doesn't (or shouldn't) play in 0DTE short vol. it's infinitely harder to manage than a longer dated contract, and you're losing 14% just to commissions. whatever the volatility premium is is offset by the commissions and spread. |

it's way higher ROI to go naked with 1 lot than go covered with 200 lots.
also highly suggest extending duration. like you pointed out, you would've gotten stopped out today with that proposed stop loss.
stop losses also aren't terribly effective with options b/c spreads fluctuate dramatically, stopping you out when you wouldn't have done it manually. less of an issue for SPX than any other underlying but still exists.
also those options are sold in 0.05 increments so keep in mind the drag from the spread alone.
start *EXTREMELY* small (like, 1 contract at most, preferably in SPY over SPX b/c it's smaller), longer duration, and do the background reading on vol selling. the internet is littered with stories of vol sellers who got too big and went bankrupt. you really have to know what you're doing or you can game-over quick |
