AZ always had a libertarian streak. Can you imagine what the NEA would do if this were floated in a blue state?

Wont the impact just be to make public schools even worse?

I'm very happy with the schools my kids go to. Excellent teachers so far. I'm concerned about indoctrination as they get older though and im not sure what to do about it.
But if we are talking about poor districts, I agree throwing money at them has not resulted in any improvements. I'm guessing taking resources away and leaving only the poorest most at risk kids whose vouchers alone would clearly not be enough to go to a private school would not make things better.
I guess it's justifiable if we say "those kids are fucked anyway so it doesn't matter. Might as well give middle class kids some additional options."

lol at this working in todays lib environment. it will be considered racist or some shit.
they tried this in the town next to where i live. the old big high school for those who want it and built another one about as big overall but the campus is split into smaller schools for kids with different interests. like some kids do computer shit others do biology and other sciences like a pre-premed thing etc.
of course they decided to cancel it after 2020 and theyre going to two normal schools next year. actually fucked everything up because parents are MAF about the boundaries and voting against levies. now sports are pay to play, theyre laying off teachers, etc. in a district that isnt poor at all overall

What are the alternatives though? If I'm thinking of myself, my town has pretty good schools. The teachers have all been very good. My kids are doing well.
The only current alternatives are religious schools and private schools I couldn't afford for 4 kids even with vouchers.
Unless the theory is that under a new system public schools cease to exist altogether and the whole thing is privatized.

There's a couple reasons not the least of which is that the kids come from good stock and families who value education and hard work.
These kids obviously bring the test scores up and make the classroom environment conducive to learning.
But also the best teachers, principals, supervisors etc flock to these school districts.
I agree this is obvious. It's the same reason people send their kids to private school. It's nit that they have better books or teachers. It's that the students come from wealthy families.

I'd disagree re your school district comment. The boards of ed and administrators in UMC districts are prestige and credential obsessed. That's who is responsible for hiring.
Anecdotally, my wife teaches in a very highly regarded public school district. All of her co-workers have advanced degrees and are smart, competent people. None would ever consider working somewhere like Newark, Plainfield or Irvington unless it was the only place they could find a job right after college but then jump ship to a better district after gaining some experience.
I'd think the benefits of a private school are mostly social rather than purely academic but I could be wrong. At a private school, your kid will likely have less exposure to bad influences and fewer opportunities to get off track in adolescence.

looks very likely to be enacted. the AZ house and senate passed it. AZ is very libertarian.
i imagine the state courts will reject any challenges.
it's the federal courts and the Ninth Circuit that could be a problem.
