His keys would have only been stored locally, encrypted by the wallet and unlocked by the password. If his key or seedphrase was on his computer in an unencrypted document, anyone with access to that document could get the coins without the password.
Other attack vectors would be interacting with a bad contract, website, or coin. If some unknown coin or NFT was sent to your wallet, chances are it is a drainer and doing anything with it (sending, selling, etc) can allow your other shit to be drained. These will often have names similar to real coins.
Given that STX was drained, it's probably the first type of vector (I haven't used STX but I assume as a bitcoin L2 it has a different wallet address and key from LINK). |
