Second Boeing-linked whistleblower dies after two weeks in critical condition

May 02, 2024 7:39 AM ET

A former quality auditor at Spirit AeroSystems (SPR) who had alleged that company leadership had ignored defects on Boeing’s (NYSE:BA) 737 Max, died Tuesday morning after struggling with a an infection, the Seattle Times reported.

Josh Dean lived in Wichita, Kansas, where Spirit (SPR) is headquartered. He was 45 years old and had been in good health. A family member said Dean had died after two weeks in critical condition.

He had provided testimony in a shareholder lawsuit against Spirit (SPR), and also filed a complaint with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration that claimed “serious and gross misconduct by senior quality management of the 737 production line” at the company. Spirit (SPR) is a supplier of airplane parts to Boeing (BA) and Airbus (OTCPK:EADSY) (OTCPK:EADSF).

Dean was a client of a South Carolina law firm that also represented Boeing (BA) whistleblower John “Mitch” Barnett. In March, Barnett was found dead in an apparent suicide.

Boeing (BA) has faced greater regulatory scrutiny after a near-catastrophe on a 737 Max 9 that lost a metal panel shortly after takeoff from Portland, Oregon, on January 5.
