The parties don't like to do introspection and are as hard to turn as ocean liners, but hypothesizing a big Trump win and GOP control of both houses... there is a window there when the right Dem could get things done.
Firstly, be white and male and good looking and fit. The 47th president will be aging and fat and increasingly looking like shit. And your party should be shell-shocked enough to take a break from nominating minorities and women.
Be a handsome straight tall white Democrat guy.
Sounds like Newsom so far, but here are the key differences:
Some Dem policies are tremendously popular, some are trending popular only for youngs, and some get no pushback from the GOP anyway so have no cost.
He should obviously be full-throttle pro-choice. Pro-life is an electoral albatross and until the 19th is repealed, someone looking to consolidate power needs to be pro-choice.
He should break ranks and be anti-Israel. Big cost up front, but the boomers are dying. Get ahead of the wave. Israel's conduct in this war will only become more and more publicized, esp in Europe, and he should align with younger voters (both D and R) who are ready to drop this terrible ally.
Be comfortable being socialist. Again, "communism" has no bite with younger voters and the GOP has completely abandoned "small government". Cloak the socialism in trumpian populism, crank the money printer, and be all about hand-outs. Bad long term, but not your problem. No one is championing fiscal responsibility, so why carry that cross alone?
Immediately drop transgender shit. Tiny percent of the population who force you into ridiculous positions. Cut those freaks loose. Dem voters will follow you.
Abandon attacking the GOP as racist. Dems cranked that to one hundred and only succeeded in losing big chunks of hispanics and blacks. The best attack, as Dems saw in September, is "weird and creepy and incel". Note: you need to be tall, white and handsome to do this, but that's the prereq anyway. Vance, Vivek, Rubio, Stephen Miller, the "dissident right" -- these guys are all supremely vulnerable to being portrayed as internet-masturbating-losers. Dorks.
This kind of Democrat will face headwinds, but Clinton moved the Dems significantly in 92, Trump moved the GOP a hundred miles in 16... you can move a party who is sick and tired of losing.
