I haven't done the math on it, but advisors I talk to seem to indicate that in most instances it doesn't pay to wait to start taking SS, especially given the fact that many people die prior to turning 70.

I was going to edit to include "or shortly thereafter". Even so, if you don't need the SS payments to live, you can take the money and invest it in basic index funds and probably outperform whatever return you would get by waiting until 70.
