Even though it's TFR is now only 1.88, still birthing tons cause avg birthing age is 23
India's 23 million annual births are three times as many as the 7.9 million China had in 2025 (chart by

) and six times as many as in the whole of Europe.
For now, India is among the countries least threatened by birthrate collapse.

Key Demographic Projections
Total Population: Demographers and the United Nations World Population Prospects estimate India will maintain its position as the world's most populous country, with the population expected to peak at roughly 1.7 billion in 2061 before stabilizing around 1.5 billion by 2100.
Shift in Age Demographics: India is currently experiencing the stage of "peak child," meaning the youth population is unlikely to ever be as large as it is today. By 2046, elderly citizens are projected to outnumber children (ages 0 to 14).
Senior Population Boom: The number of people aged 60 and above is predicted to skyrocket from roughly 149 million to over 347 million by 2050, meaning one in every five individuals in India will be an elderly person.
Religious Demographics: According to the Pew Research Center, India will retain the world's largest populations for both Hindus and Muslims. By 2050, the Hindu population is projected to reach roughly 1.3 billion, while the Muslim population is projected to grow to approximately 311 million, making up 18.4% of the country.

The trend line appears good for India, but their birth rate data is notoriously unreliable, due to the difficulty of distinguishing between Indian babies and excrement. Many live births turn out to be curry-induced bowel movements but "parents" do not realize this until around the third birthday.
