I've been to two Latin masses in my life and my overall sentiment is that I prefer having the slightest idea what's going on. But I think this is personal sentiment as much as anything.
More broadly, I think people who blame the vernacular Mass for Church problems are using it as a scapegoat because it's simpler and more obvious than grappling with the bigger problems of shitty leadership, loss of missionary zeal, and deficient faith formation for young people. Those issues are also related to V2, but I think they can also be fixed without trying to teleport back to 1950. |
