Date: July 9th, 2020 8:44 PM Author: heady frum brunch most of them are, but it doesn't matter. there is no such thing as a fake service dog because there are no objective requirements for a real service dog. if the owner says it's a service dog, then legally it's a service dog. the owner could be faking a disability, but store owners are in no position to prove what's real or not and kicking an owner out on a hunch turns into a discrimination lawsuit as soon as she pays a shrink or a d.o. to give her a bullshit diagnosis. you can only exclude a service animal if the owner can't maintain control over it. you can ask the owner "do you have a disability?" and "does the dog perform a task related to your disability?", but she says yes and yes and that's the end of it.
it's completely fucking insane, but i've done a lot of research on it and this is the truth. business owners are hostages to this shit. the most entertaining version of this story is landlords with no pet policies who have to accept service dogs and then get complaints from their allergic tenants who moved there in large part because it was pet free. |
