I had my $8m budget locked but just had an equity investor drop out for $500k. I found $200k on Friday. 30 days from start of principal.
I need $300k (secured against my Calabrian tax credit, so you're really just cash flowing) by this Friday to close the senior loan and go into production.
Given the timing, you might be the only hope the world has to see Katie Holmes touch herself while negotiating her son's ransom.
Let's go dude.

Goes to the rest of you. $300k for a 20% return, principal secured because it's cash flowing a production credit we're guaranteed to receive by the Italian gov't regardless of the film's performance, and a % of profit in perpetuity.
Happy to set up meet and greet with Al + Katie, credit and premieres etc. If you want, I'll bring you to a party in Cannes in May.
Need cash by Friday or else the communists win.

they bumped up a production credit because they need people to have a job in the country. They lure international productions by saying hey, if you hire 35% or more of your crew as bonafide I-talians, we'll flat out give you $500k for stimulating the local economy. Every year or 2 a country will boost their credit and productions flock to them.
$300k or $500k can literally make or break a $20m success a producer worked a decade to cobble together.
So this year, we go to Italy.

FUCK. I found the cash but it's not the cash I want. I can have it by Friday but I give up my ability to sell the film myself and pass it off to a bigger label.
I need $200k. Don't make me pass this off to another company to pad their fucking pockets. Literally have a top company begging to give me the money because they know they'll cash in.
fuck fuck fuck.

We had to shift $50k from the equity pool to the gap loan - meaning:
I need $50k more to finally be done.
20% return and pari passu backend share in the $500k equity pool.
Meet Al Pacino. Premier invite - and fuck it, if you wanna come I’ll take you to Cannes mid May and take you to a few parties while I sell this fucker.
Credit: either XOXOHTH credit in end titles, co-exec EP, or I can try to bury a funny credit in the tail so long as it isn’t profane racist or misogynistic.
$50k when the stock market is fucking tanking and I can guarantee you your principal back - profit is technically at risk, but I’m happy to chat with you on the phone to give you my background and who my partners are and let you decide if it’s worth the risk.
Xoxohth.

Negotiations turned it into a $1m+ deal with another company on another thing later this year - so that's sick - but no cash now so I'm fucked.
I'm going to lose ability to sell international over fucking $200k ljl.
Feels like I lost even though I won a bigger game.
Still closed a side $300k and it's going into production - and I'll get credit - but fma this shouldn't have been this fucking hard.

$300k finally done. Al Pacino is in Italy.
And here I thought this board was filled with richmos.
Budget is locked and funded. We have $200k open (4 $50k tranches) in equity we can place if there's any fomo, but at least the film isn't riding on it. Not too late to meet Al and be a part of board history.

Couldn't get his money out of his family - he wasn't wealthy but his family was and apparently controlled his cashflow. These fuckers are cockroaches.
DeNiro movie bombed b/c Warner Brothers is a fucking clown show under David Zaslav -- it's a total dumpster fire over there.
This is based on the John Paul Ghetty III story where the grandson kidnaps himself and the Italian mobster actually cut his ear off after Ghetty refused to pay the ransom.

I have a film advisory business so founder, but I come in on a project as producer / executive producer or sales agent. Credit matters less to me than cash and a cut(and depends on the production's needs). I also consult on international distribution, talent, and production etc. as needed.
Bulk of what I do, though, is secure pre-sales in international territories to secure the production loan against so a film can go into production.
We're not all scum and a lot of us are in it for the right reasons and there's a crowd of us that work on our own, and a few shops, and a hell of a lot of scammers and scumbag leeches from petty criminals to legit evil monsters you really never want to be alone in a room with. It's wild. But where people are desperate, folks will show up to take advantage.
I'm trying to actually make good films people want to see again.

Thanks bro. Please do see the film and please support your local cinema.
Long story - there's a lawyer in the family and I had a bit of a connection to the entertainment industry pre law school. After undergrad I helped a director put a short film together he wanted to submit to a major film festival. Luckily it was good and he won the young director award. So we were on the beach after the win in Cannes and I said to myself yeah, I'll try to make this work somehow.
Went to law school and networked the shit out of the industry. Worked at a firm that gave me way too much responsibility way too early and hardly paid me, for the privilege of access and to learn how the industry actually worked. Yadayada, made film + tv / repped talent then moved to Paris with wife for a year still repping talent and handling film and tv work while she got an MA. After her degree we wanted to stay. Then I got a break to go in-house at an international major, then years later got another break to go to a prestige independent shop.
I've done enough deals throughout the world at this point that if I have a good script in my hand with at least 2 name talent attached (and hopefully a decent director), I can secure at least $500k-$2m+ in international pre-sales at a major market for a producer who can then bank those deals and take out a production loan against them. And so it goes, an Al Pacino film is born.
At the end of the day the industry is who you know. I forced my way in, but when youre in, youre in unless you Harvey Weinstein yourself like a dumbfuck pig. There's a fuckton of horrible individuals preying on dumb money and ignorant hopefuls. And there's a ton of really great people who love making great films and tv who want to tell great stories and entertain people while not abusing folks.
I literally decided one day to switch from being a lawyer and to make a go of it. Fucked off from my fancy prestigious gig to hang my own shingle. It's terrifying and I still do a bit of law to make a bit of money, but so far I'm building a pretty solid business. Things are looking pretty good after the film is released next year. The next 5 months will be tight because film market cycles and chasing payments etc. means July is likely when the next real batch of fees come in. Only up and running a year so I need another year until my cashflow evens out, but even with the stress and having $300k drop out at the last minute and having to beg CSLG to close my production loan by Friday, it's so much more gratifying than just billing at a law firm.

Al Pacino does well internationally. We’ve already closed millions in theatrical sales. I’m here to make sure baby producer doesn’t fuck up snd let it go straight to video. Al’and Katie’s agents would kill me.
Low but strong would be $24m box office for the budget, where everyone gets a return and then an extra stack of cash. If it does more than that, say $50+ internationally I’ll be golden for a few years - but I’m gonna be ploughing that money into a development for other films if that happens.
I could make anywhere from $250k-$5m….But more like right around $1m with decent success….and I’m getting only a small cut.
That’s a box office is only the first… on a long enough timeline I’ll make money on this regardless…. I have DVD deals I can tap in 12-18 months…… my cut of that will be an extra $150k after the next year … etc.

Verbal yes. Paperwork is with investors lawyer. Sigs should be by Monday.
Working out getting the senior lender to waive a requirement to give a few extra days for investor to complete the wire, but I'm not too worried about that part.
