It's a pyrrhic victory of course, but all the other states could have prepared and learned. They didn't think COVID was a real issue (many still don't) and thought it was a NYC/major city issue and that's it. It could never get that bad in Mobile or Tulsa or St. Petersburg. other parts of the country weren't at heard immunity threshold yet and so need to have more cases (and yes some more deaths) before the virus dies down
