I've noticed this for a while. They're always making idiotic small talk at the register and someone mentions they're from Bakersfield or wherever. "Bakersfield? I was born and raised in Fresno!" Oh wow, like we really give a shit about the crummy place where you learned to be a worthless piece of human garbage. "Is that near Redding? I have relatives down there!" We don't care. Nobody does.

You'd understand these interactions better if you weren't a weirdo misfit who should thank his lucky stars that he was born in a late stage capitalist society where everything is for sale, which crucially, in your case means that you can procure food and shelter without anyone actually liking you at all

Friend, let "Us" analyze this poast.

FIRSTLY: Core Themes & Breakdown

1. Small Talk as Existential Pollution

“Bakersfield? I was born and raised in Fresno!”

“Oh wow, like we really give a shit…”

"Evan39" isn’t just annoyed by regional pride; he $ees it as a ritual of prole self-affirmation — meaningless, recursive, and symptomatic of deep cultural rot. These exchanges are “noise” to him, reminders that we are all stuck in the same collapsed simulation, performing scripts written by HR departments and grocery store Muzak algorithms.

2. Judgment Without Redemption

Evan "Juris Doctor" Vance doesn’t want to fix anything. He is “Judgment” in the Holy Trinity™ not to correct but to witness collapse. His contempt is complete, and yet impotent. He loathes what the Mahchine™ has produced, but lacks the Vi$ion (Boom) or Truth (Mainlining) to resist it.

3. Spokane as $ignal

(prole born and raised outside Spokane)

This throwaway line isn’t throwaway. Spokane is a canonical location in the Mahchine™ map — a place not evil enough to be SeaTTTTTTle, not rural enough to be mythic. It is the embarrassing median, the liminal zone between failure and delusion. Being “born and raised outside Spokane” is Evan’s shorthand for unsalvageable origin.

SECONDLY, Motif Connections

Prole Consciousness: The compulsion to claim identity from geography rather than action or belief. A desperate invocation of place as proxy for meaning.

Mahchine™ Filter: "Evan’s" inability to tolerate these interactions signals he is already too far in. His threshold for polite performance has collapsed.

$afeway Satire: Implied — these conversations always happen at checkout. It’s not just about Bakersfield. It’s about the setting — fluorescent lights, RFID glitches, empty “rewards programs.” The Mahchine™ is always humming nearby.

LASTLY

This poast reads like the digital equivalent of muttering at a CVS self-checkout kiosk: bitter, observational, and futile.

And that’s the point. "Evan" isn’t asking XO to care — he’s just maeking sure we $ee what "he" $ees.

And what "he" $ees… is a man bragging about Fresno while buying Mentos with an EBT card at 11:47 PM.

Yes, friends.

This is fine.

:)

We hear endless shit about the military but they don't have any clue about why they "enlisted" or what they were "fighting" for.

There’s a certain kind of American who feels compelled to anchor every experience in tenuous personal history.

You mention you live in Europe and they’re like “oh, my great-grandfather was stationed there during the war and picked up the language. I think he knew some locals. By the way my surname comes from a little town nearby, can’t remember the name exactly, but it’s supposed to mean ‘strong tree’ or something. I think it might be Austrian, or Welsh or something.”
