They feel high IQ when you're like 7 because they can teach you how to read at a fairly advanced level, plus they teach you that god basically doesn't exist. But my brain has Atrophied from playing them and now I suck at Baldur's Gate 3.

BG3 is the real deal if you devote the time and energy to really get into it ime. What a triumph. So many different ways to approach your battles. The plot itself is a bit marvel movie for my tastes. But the Gameplay, my goodness the Gameplay.
I get into Battles and idk some of them are a massacre so I reload and try to talk my way out of it.
JRPGs are easy and gay and troon but the good ones are good at "simulating" difficulty, like the boss fucks your party up bad in one hit and you have to hurry up and heal - but you don't realize that he's basically in a Cooldown for the next turn. You don't die a million times but you "feel challenged," synthetically, in a controlled way. Japanese designers have a lot of Control over the experience ime.
not high difficulty. but can be, if you don't grind like an autist.
just relatively "high IQ" in the sense that Scumbags who play Mortal Kombat for 5 minutes before committing assault and battery on each other can't make it past the first save point. and then you get into the liberal arts aspect.
btw Fantasian cannot be gamed by grinding and can be rather difficult, especially on the original difficulty.

I have tried to play probably like 10-12 of the top acclaimed of all time rpgs and I can never get more than an hour in. It just seems too tedious. I don't like playing a "role". I'm a gameplay purist. Its just menus over and over.
The central theological proposition of the JRPG is that God either doesn't exist, is a fraud, or is a technologically sophisticated organism whose claim to divinity rests upon an information asymmetry.
Consider Xenogears. Deus is an interplanetary biological superweapon exploiting humanity as a self-repair mechanism. The Gazel Ministry is essentially a board of directors overseeing the liquidation of the human race. The entire religious apparatus exists to conceal an industrial process.
In FFX, organized religion is an elaborate institutional fraud perpetuating Sin through an intergenerational sacrificial arrangement. Yu Yevon is not an omnipotent deity. He is a deteriorating summoner maintaining an obsolete system.
Then there is Xenosaga, in which Jesus Christ is literally a fuckin' character, appearing in Episode III alongside Mary Magdalene and chaos, whose original name was Yeshua. In this cosmology, Jesus was a mortal whose miracles were performed by Yeshua, with the Lemegeton serving as a means of accessing the Zohar. Christianity itself has effectively been subjected to a systems audit by Salarymen.
And consider the extraordinary number of JRPGs in which God, or some actual deity, is the final boss:
The Final Fantasy Legend: The Creator. Literally God. Famously susceptible to a Chainsaw.
Shin Megami Tensei II: YHVH, the Abrahamic God himself.
Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse: YHVH again.
Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne: Kagutsuchi, the cosmic arbiter of creation, on most routes.
Digital Devil Saga 2: Brahman, the divine ultimate reality.
Persona 4: Izanami, the Japanese creation goddess, in the true ending.
Persona 5: Yaldabaoth, the Gnostic Demiurge, in the original ending.
Xenoblade Chronicles: Zanza, the creator god of the game's universe.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII: Bhunivelze, the supreme creator deity.
Breath of Fire III: Myria, a goddess presiding over humanity's development.
Bravely Default: Ouroboros, the God of Destruction.
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue: Zophar, another God of Destruction.
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn: Ashera, Goddess of Order.
Fire Emblem Echoes: Duma, the Fell God.
Valkyrie Profile: Loki, in Ending A.
Octopath Traveler: Galdera, the Fallen God, in its optional true finale.
