Zelensky Says Preparing 'Plan' To End War With Russia

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday said he was drawing up a "comprehensive plan" for how Kyiv believes the war with Russia should end.

There are no public talks ongoing between Ukraine and Russia and based on public statements by Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, the two sides appear as far apart as ever when it comes to the terms of a potential peace settlement.

Zelensky hosted a major international summit in Switzerland earlier this month -- to which Russia was not invited -- to rally support for Ukraine's position.

"It is very important for us to show a plan to end the war that will be supported by the majority of the world," Zelensky said on Friday.

"This is the diplomatic route we are working on," he said at a press conference in Kyiv alongside Slovenian President Natasa Pirc Musar.

Russia's troops are slowly advancing on the battlefield, claiming to have seized another small frontline village on Friday.

They currently occupy around a fifth of Ukraine and in 2022 claimed to have annexed four more regions, none of which they fully controlled.

Ukraine relies on Western financial and military aid to push back the invading Russian forces, but its troops are outgunned, outmanned and exhausted after more than two years of fighting."

zelenskyy has said this before to get more money and weapons. and he's always got what he wanted, yet russia is still pressing. there's really only two outcomes at this point:

1) ukraine makes peace or capitulates

2) the west takes a more active role

considering how unlikely 2 is since we would have stepped in way before now, and trump being ascendant makes it even less likely to happen going forward, idk how you can avoid that 1 is the most likely outcome.

Maybe if the rus were able to move further than 5km from their border after sending 25k in last month I would buy that line. Maybe if they were not presently getting their toe-hold in Kharkiv oblast obliterated I would buy it.

Ukraine must join EU and NATO to survive, its more important that Donetsk or Luhansk. There's my two cents and not one accounted for in your plan.

there is nothing about the EU or NATO as fictional entities that would change things. what you're describing is the mechanism by which the west would take a more active role. but ukraine would have to be admitted to the EU or NATO in the midst of a war for that to happen. again, seems very unlikely if it hasn't happened yet. if the west was going to step in they would have done so long ago.

Russia also has a lot of pressure points. Their little gains in the Donbass come at the price of a shitload of equipment, manpower, Crimea as a naval and air base, and the black sea fleet. The latter two are in my view worth a lot more than some bombed out territory. Then there's the sanctions and the money in western banks.

There's a whole ton of elements here that can be negotiated in some deal.
