What's definitive explanation for why there's so much support for Palestine?

2. There are several types of conduct to be considered. Israel's conduct in the West Bank under Netanyahu has been indefensible. The war in Gaza has had horrific consequences but none of its opponents can articulate a meaningful alternative.
3. Irrelevant.
4. No question social media allows Palestinians to share the horror of effects of bombardment on civilians. On net, that has shifted the balance toward Palestine. However, Hamas presence on social media also works against them, because they're very forthcoming about their desire to murder all Jews. |

Given that a negotiated peace is not possible in the short term, and is not likely to work if it requires a reliable counterpart, the only hope is for Israel to be prepared to move toward peace unilaterally, following a plan designed to unfold over decades. They have to accept that this may result in marginally decreased safety in the short and possibly medium term. And they can't continue to wash their hands of responsibility for people whom they govern simply because those people are their enemies. They should advance the plan by inviting Palestinian organizations to join, but must be prepared to carry it out completely unilaterally to the extent possible if necessary.
I am not a MFE on every single issue relating to the conflict, but they need to come up with a schedule of carrots and sticks that will progress over a long enough time that incremental improvements to Palestinian independence and QOL will not jeopardize Israel's safety overnight. The ultimate goal should be a two state solution with Palestinian sovereignty in Gaza and the West Bank, with shared control over east Jerusalem and Jewish access to the holy sites in the West Bank. The time frame could be something like fifty years.
I am skeptical that this is possible, but I think it's the only way to get past the issues of dealing with representatives on the Palistinian side who are by definition the most bloodthirsty and very likely the most corrupt.
I don't think the current conflict is helping, obviously, but I don't see much choice. And I think Israel is really shooting themselves in the foot in the West Bank. Netanyahu needs to go, and if the sim writers have any commitment to reality, he will be gone within a few months. Hopefully the next government will be able to undo some of the damage he's done.
Re defense contractors, I think it's a huge problem in the US, and I'm open to the possibility that it's a driver a violence in Israel, but I am inclined to assume Israel is different. Most of their weapons are not from Israel so the influence pipeline would operate totally differently. And they're a much more cohesive society than the US and everyone's kids are in the army, so it's less likely that people manipulate public opinion on war simply to profit. |

Fucking Ben Rhodes did an event with the 2020 Dem candidates where he tried to get them to pledge to condition aid to Israel on a complete halt of any settlement build out in the West Bank. Obama himself treated his obvious pro-Palestinian sympathies like he treated his 20 years sitting in the pews in Jeremiah Wright’s church, ie move along, nothing to see here. But he was always winking at the pro-Palestinian side and staffed his administration with people that advocated an approach to Palestine that was more hostile to especially the right wing of Israeli politics, and they made no secret of their hatred for Netanyahu. That was the key movement of the Overton window on the Dem side that allowed the full blown Israel-hating campus activists space to try to push things further in the direction or anti-Zionism.
Still though, the last two months have been another big step in that direction. The one that blew me away lately was Dean Phillips, a literal Jew, who is running against Biden and started out trying to get to his right on Israel, but has since started saying Bibi is the problem and has to go now, and he would condition aid on no settlement activity after the war in Gaza is over, like conditioning aid on no settlements is the mainstream Dem position now. It’s really encouraging, because there will of course be space on the more isolationist side for the GOP once Netanyahu-semen-addicted Trump is no longer the leader of the GOP, potentially as soon as 13 months from now. |

The polling by age groups was pretty surprising to me at least and very explanatory.
