I watched it long ago right after reading the book, and I guess my mind filled in all the gaps in the movie's weak narrative. It was only the new movies that brought the flaws of the original into focus for me.
That said, the original is a guilty pleasure for me and I can rewatch it endlessly |

I’ve been meaning to watch it for years and some poasters I respect speak highly of it - the casting really intrigues me, too, because it looks like it’s the most earnest attempt to be what Herbert envisioned.
The casting in the new Dune is just okay for me: the main actor works and Zendaya suits the role of pretty ethnically ambiguous woman of mystery (I just wish they had emphasized her beauty more - it’s so hilariously modern Hollywood to make attractive women look “gritty” onscreen, as if the studios and producers and filmmakers are so earnestly striving for realism in all things, lmao).
The people who completely took me out of the movie to the point I can’t rewatch it: Christopher Walken and the aggressively average-looking actress masquerading as a stunningly beautiful princess - both felt like joke castings meant to mock the viewer for taking the movie seriously. (Yes I know Talmudic-Americans would sneer that she’s marketable to youth! But no, there are lots of beautiful actresses who are marketable to young people.)
In conclusion, I’m gay. |
