How old is she? Has she tried both? Does she have a preference?
I've heard that softball is very time consuming and a lot of travel if she's on a competitive team.

i was pretty good at basketball and it was probably my favorite sport growing up.
one time the guys on my football team were running shit in a pick-up basketball game and our high school's star basketball player player joined in. and he just clowned me without even trying to.
you got to realize what your wheelhouse is. and i was good at basketball and enjoyed it as a kid but not a future nba player like this guy.

Wife entered her into a tennis tournament and 1st round she played a boy who wasn't better than her, but could perfectly serve underhanded into the stupid makeshift boxes they drew with chalk
My kid had a mental breakdown and couldn't get 1 overhead serve into that box and refused to underhand
I noticed a girls softball game on adjacent field and all the girls (and dads) were having a blast, and felt sorry for my kid and myself
