all of these family sitcoms were just kind of laying the psychological groundwork for the self-understanding of the american family

it was white, it had 4 or so kids. Suburban house. Dad and mom had careers. Big brother was wise-acre, handsome. Big sis was pretty, maybe a little boy crazy. Some younger ones had less charisma, but got off zingers occasionally.

Neighbors and friends regularly stopped over, the door is unlocked.

And, truth be told, most of the above described every single family I grew up around in the 80s.

There were no German girls in this show and therefore it sucked.

Actor Kirk Cameron was hugely popular as a star amongst the middle school crowd. I remember he was featured prominantly on one of those "READ" posters at my school's library.

Chekhov from Star Trek’s IRL son. He (the son) died under strange circumstances, disappeared for a while until they found the body.

On the show, the nickname Boner was derived from the character’s last name “Stabone.” The father (in the show) was named Sylvester. Sylvester Stabone, get it? (That was high comedy in 80s sitcoms).
