my bf and i are catsitting our friend's 2yo orange cat and he is the sweetest and cuddliest lil kittendood. he is also an astute predator. we were playing with him with a feather duster wiggling it like it was a small critter, and in addition to athleticism, he demonstrated a tactic that blew our minds. he was pawing at it then kinda rolled over and looked intently in the opposite direction. we wondered aloud if he saw a bug that triggered his predator instincts even more, and we both looked where he was looking. he immediately turned back around and POUNCED on the feather duster while we were distracted. was hilarious and very clever. do your catdoods do things like this?
cr. my bf and i are always talking about how sad it is how bored and understimulated some of the dogs that live in our apartment complexes clearly are because they'll just start barking at any sound

Even dogs with a house to roam are effectively living in an environment that would be almost like a closet is to us. If something kept me penned up in a fucking walk in close all day and let me out only long enough to taunt me with how much better the outside world is, I'd go for break trying to kill my captor and/or fleeing into the outside environment
Can't fucking imagine what it must be like to be a fish in a tiny aquarium
plus with dogs they've often been bred for a certain job and with a hard-wired desire to work, and they're getting basically no stimulation or purpose at all. not that it's any better to put the dog to work lmao, it's just a sad situation all around.
yeah fish as pets/decoration is super fucked up too
yeah i once saw an ad about how still water is bad for them due to risk of bacteria, so i ordered a water fountain for him. he's drinking way more than the first day where we were just using a bowl

Yeah, it's the biofilm that builds up pretty quickly (the slippery shit)
Pets either win the fucking lottery in this life or are doomed to absolute abysmal existences. There is some in-between, but not as much as you'd think
cr. this baby is very loved and our friend WFH so she gives him constant attention and stimulation, plus he's smart enough to entertain himself in the moments he's not being interacted with, so he seems happy. he's also very affectionate and trusts us, as you can see from some of his vulnerable poses in the pics 🥺
The complaints I saw were AMZN pages selling "name brands" with the shipped item being totally different. I have no idea if that's because there's an actual quality difference, or if it's just the brands trying to protect their product.
I'll have to try one out once my old guy is gone. My does are 8 & 10 lbs and would probably like it.
Free-roam house rabbits a lot of work, but they're great to have around.
I'm finding end of life care to involve a lot of cleaning, since he can't physically hop into the litter box anymore, but he's doing pretty well all things considered. He wasn't expected to make it past January, but is still hanging on & enjoying treats.

My cat will go over to the door when she thinks I am about to leave and will start scratching the cat post right next to it. The millisecond i put my hand on the door handle though she stops and tries to push her way out the door. I think the scratching on the post is a ruse to convince me she doesn’t intend to bolt the second the door is open.
