Ever been in a situation where you are at a conference? You stand idly by the drink tray and other lawyers traverse the floor in your direction. First, you notice their suits, then their name tags. They're from Biglaw, of course. Hence, their aloof air and condescending attitude. Accordingly, they rebuff your attempts at chatter, batting away any discourse like a fly on a hot summer's day. This has been my experience at many conferences. With Weil, in particular, I tried to speak with a partner who treated me like a non-entity on a networking platform. Those who find themselves in position of prominence in their field often yield this gift like a weapon, only they forgot one thing. Your fortune can evaporate quicker than it took you find it. So, no. I don't feel bad for the lawyers at Weil. They wouldn't feel bad for me either.
