You're good looking and in your prime buy your life isn't really going anywhere. You're not moving up in a career path and you're not getting married and having kids. But you're still young enough to live like the future doesn't matter. There's no real pressure to strive but you're not getting any younger. You have some good excuses for why you haven't met milestones, but your personality isn't evolving. You're just spinning your tires.

I think that life fundamentally changed for young Americans after the crash 2001-2002. By this time, the value of college was already greatly diminished and you had a lot of people seeking refuge from the economy (this is actually the same phenomenon that happened in the 1970s, although arguably Boomers wound up in a better position).

By the time 2008 came around, that was a really deep recession, but I'm pretty certain that that really destroyed Gen Xers more than anyone else. If you bought your house at the top of the market in 2006 and then lost your job in 2008 and got foreclosed upon, then that would have been very bad. The other thing was that the fear was very real and a lot of people thought everything was ended. Young people for the most part didn't face that kind of stress because if the world was ending, it was ending, they didn't lose nearly as much when the market tanked, and they could invest in it on the way back up. Now they are doing quite well.

Kids that are coming out of college today I don't think are fucked either because I think advancements in AI are going to really propel them into the future. I think it may be that Gen X and Millennials continue to get fucked but Zoomers and Alphas really excel in the next 30 years.

It was very localized within Gen X so it was basically covered up and brushed off by boomers and the media. It also coincided with 9/11 (technically it started 18 months prior, but 9/11 and Enron accelerated and extended it), which was boomers major peak as the rulers of western society and manipulators of global capitalism and the military industrial complex. After 2008 boomers have had to submit to a coalition government with Gen X and elder millennials, but 2001 google didn’t even exist, so all the reins of power were consolidated in their hands with predictably horrible results.

Lol they’d controlled the White House for a decade and were running the vast majority of the Fortune 50. Boomers had more power in 1988 than Gen X or Millennials have today or ever had at any point in the past.

Conservafags like to pretend that Obama was peak boomer, but in reality Obama was boomers having to give ground to Gen X and millennials (and they wisely went with the divide and conquer strategy of diversity and DEI being new GC core values). Peak boomer was 2005 when W was convinced he had “political capital” to spend and he and his PNAC/AEI boomer friends were literally sitting around huffing their own farts and high fiving that they put Saddam and his sons in a hole in the ground in Eyerack and now they were going to hold elections in Gaza to make sure there would never be a Palestinian state, just like their best buddy Bibi (also a boomer) said they should. Then as they were losing control they 1) bailed out the banks, and 2) told Russia that Ukraine was definitely eventually joining NATO completely out of the blue. Aaaaand here we are.

Obama was at most a placeholder boomer who got elected to put his name on a shitty piece of healthcare legislation that would obviously be very unpopular, and then was a lame duck for seven years. That’s not power.

I have the vaguest recollection. If you go back even further in time, it is all black. High school for example, I have no clue about that time in my life because it was so long ago. Even the friends that I have from that time in my life, I don't really recall how we became friends or whatnot as it seems that our friendship is based entirely around being there for one another throughout adulthood as opposed to any one thing that happened in high school.
