I've been obsessed with The Villages lately

it's a pretty fascinating microcosm of the Boomer generation, but most intriguing to me is the dearth of information/publicity on the Morse family that runs the whole operation - owns the radio station, newspaper that never criticizes anything about the Villages, is able to install electronic gates on tax-payer funded public roads, etc. Huge Republican donors. "Locals" getting pushed out by ramped up expansion. All very tantalizing and suspicious. |

Basically houses are like $300,000 (they were like $240,000 pre COVID), most people are on modest incomes - yet the entire place is beautiful and well taken care of. It's safe. There's a huge sense of community and shared amenities anywhere.
And the amenities aren't (pay $75,000 and join this country club), it's pay $200/month to this HOA and get unlimited golf courses, pickleball courts, pools, etc.
Basically - America can still be paradise like 1990 if you just keep it to the people who lived in America in 1990... |
