Only thing was when some weird guys came behind us and were saying “Nega, Nega, Nega” until I turned around and they just went the other way. I’m familiar with what it means and know it’s just a way to cause a scene. But annoying.
But beyond that hotel staff was wack. They constantly didn’t acknowledge us when we entered and left the hotel but would great everyone else. They’d just look the other way. Staff keep doing weird things, like I asked to use an hdmi cord and umbrella on separate occasions. Both times they asked me if I was a guest at the hotel (pretty sure I’m the only 6’5 blk guy here for the week) and then made sure to explain that if not returned it would be 30,000 won. Couldn’t or wouldn’t book us for hotel amenities (movie theatre).
Also, just a weird attitude from almost every young woman in Seoul. My wife has decent following on insta and wears her hair in an Afro some days. We got so many dirty looks especially when we went to clothing stores or popped in the big Olive Young. Just not somewhere I’d go back to visit, very weird vibe.
Idk if this is a Korea specific thing bc we also visited Japan on this trip and it was much nicer. |

I've been to Korea and Japan and walked into a couple bars or restaurants or whatever and the owner said they were "closed" when there were very obviously people inside and it was some sort of no foreigners rule. I've also had that happen in Texas when I went into what I thought was a restaurant but was a very obvious gambling den, but that was probably due to laws surrounding gambling rather than my race. Other than that, just explore different neighborhoods, check out Korean brands, eat bbq, hang out on Han River… |
