Flu has an r0 barely over 1. That's why it disappears at the end of every "flu season" - because any change in its environment whatsoever is enough to push the r0 under 1, at which point it dies out

Was the response to covid worth it? At what threshold of illness or death *would* it actually be worth it to pursue policies like China did for covid? A serious society with serious, intelligent people in power would be making these decisions explicitly and would have them completely ready before any crisis ever occured
But we are not a serious society that is run by intelligent individuals who are capable of difficult, complex value judgments like this, just like you are not a serious, intelligent individual who is even capable of grasping a 110 IQ-level abstraction |
