If we have an all powerful entity better have it on our side than someone else's. Also if China makes AGI and tries to use it to destroy us, the best defense against that is if we have our own. So we essentially need to make one just in event that our enemies do, because we would need one.
Mutually assured destruction prevents wars, e.g. no war between major powers. If Iran had a nuke, we wouldn't attack them. Similarly AGI or equivalent that has the power to destroy humanity if everyone has one the odds of war go way down. |
