Date: October 26th, 2026 1:45 PM Author: Diane Rehm talking dirty (π¦ ) Why are you treating the site’s most valuable asset, the database, as the server company’s problem?
Also you could probably drop your hosting costs dramatically and reduce the amount of security patching you have to do by moving to AWS instead of blue host or whatever
Thank you for your work on the site. |

Date: October 26th, 2026 2:09 PM Author: The Penis if I made a backup/alt version i'd still put it on aws. aws policies aren't even that bad they don't require you to moderate user content. and they give you time to remove it if someone reports you and it violates their policy. i'd like to try it as an experiment. xo doesn't even attract much attention anymore. i want to actually see how long it takes before you get someone who sits there and starts systematically reporting all the stuff to aws that they don'tlike to try to get it taken down (http://www.autoadmit.com/thread.php?thread_id=5914459&forum_id=2#50203305) |

Date: October 26th, 2026 2:30 PM Author: The Penis I know aws famously took parler down because they said they failed to moderate speech that specifically incited political violence, but idk if I have seen any examples where they terminated someone just for not moderating slurs and edgy political content. Something like xo seems different because it's not a conventionally political forum, and when anything is permitted to be said, it ends up getting a surrealist layer to it. Most of it ends up just looking like elaborate performance and inside joke. Would be interesting to try out as a test case, but I think obviously wherever the main site is now is still the best case for it considering how well and for how long it has endured.
