Referring to that practice of the waiter pouring a small amount of the bottle out for you to examine, smell, and then drink as a test. If you don't like the smell or taste, can you just say, 'no, I don't want this'? Do they bring you a fresh new bottle without charging you for the first one?

I'm a prole who makes 50k/year so please explain someone.

On extremely rare occasions they can have a bad seal or some kind of contamination and the wine turns. That's all they're doing is checking for that. But low iq proles like to turn it into a huge performance.

So I can walk into a high-end steakhouse tonight, order a $500 bottle of wine, and then say 'actually this smells really off. Please take away this spoiled bottle of wine and bring me a Heineken instead.' And then they would do that and not charge me the $500?

if it's not cork rot (which is very easy to tell), the som will go through some song & dance about how the tannins will begin to express their vibrance as the wine "blooms"

In my opinion its only legit function is to see if the bottle has been corked (i.e. the wine has gone bad because of a defective cork, this happens to maybe 1 in 100 bottles with old style wooden corks). Corked wine is spoiled and can't be drunk. But you can smell corked wine in a half second of putting the wine near your nose, it smells like vinegar, you don't actually need to make a song and dance out of tasting it. Anybody who does that is just being performative because they think it is expected of them or to "impress" some date with their faux sophistication or similar.

I don't think it is legit to say "no it's not spoiled but I just don't like it please take it back" and expect not to be billed for it.

Cr. These are two different contaminants. Stuff that lives on the cork itself gives the wet newspaper smell, stuff that lives in the air gives the vinegar smell, and you can have both going on at the same time.

in olden days, wine was produced in small batches, by families or dedicated vinters. There was no quality control, no hi tech sanitation, and each bottle was made with love. Sometimes bottles of wine weren't sealed properly and would go off. tasting it ensured you were paying for a well made bottle that had been properly stored, cork down, so no air infiltrated. Today, you are sampling wine from a box that was made in a silo the size of a city bus.

Spoilage test is correct

Also in the past days of yore when it was common to simply "enjoy things" with strangers within the bands of a transaction or otherwise, the sommelier or waiter might have been genuinely curious about your thoughts on their product and sharing a few words on whatever it elicited for you would've been a pleasant and human addition to the meal experience while also giving the restaurant valuable information on what people enjoy

when I worked for a LOLFIRM the jew partners took us to some holiday lunch. MainJew ordered a few bottles, some of them were not consumed by the table, and he very shrilly called the waiter over to ask that the opened, undrank bottles be taken off the bill.

Waiter demurred, but MainJew insisted on a manager. Finally, the manager said they would use the opened bottles as "house" behind the bar, and so would only charge us a nominal fee. MainJew was irate that he had to pay anything because they were going to resell the stuff.

i really think jewish kids grow up seeing their parents absolutely jew restaurants out of profit and its all perfectly normal for them. They do this at hotels, too.

Saw a jew immediately insist that his room be changed -- too close or too far from ice machine cant remember -- and I was astounded that that's even something people do

can't say for sure whether it's nature or nurture but jews (and indians and handful of other races) absolutely *love* haggling to the point of ripping places off. what's really shocking is that they're proud of it. it's one thing to have no shame. it's another to think something is a desirable act.

cultural braindrain the farther they depart from their roots

they (and their grandchildren) won't be able to attain the same level of jewiness as their parents

their parents would have jewed their way out

they're charged a nominal fee

their children will be laughed out of the sloptrough

whites just dont have the genetics/culture to tell the jew no.

we will keep the customer happy, and swallow the loss, and try to recoup something on the bottle by selling it behind the bar.

its a fatal flaw open to being exploited. We generally trust each other and figure its best to work together.

whether an hispanic or indian (lol) or arab restaurant manager will think like that.... doubtful

Of course another desert haggler manager wouldn't give in to the jew, but it would never come to that because in the wild, each side would instinctively know not to get into that situation with the other. Like how two psychopaths can recognize each other just by meeting

My prole dad sends back a bottle or two of wine a year after testing it and tells them it’s “gone bad.”

He’s gotten in arguments but has never ended up having to pay for the wine. I’ve told him he shouldn’t do this but he told me I don’t know shit about wine and should shut my mouth. He also said they write this off all the time and this sort of thing is built into the price of the wine.

I do love that man.
