ie ones that already have decent public transportation

that's why it works so well in places like Japan

how is Nashville to St Louis or whatever better than driving? You end up in downtown St Louis without a car so if you don't know anyone there you'd still need some way to get to and from the train station or a rental car

it's likely not going to be that much cheaper than a plane ticket, would cost more than driving and take about as long

how do people get so worked up about this stuff and treat it like it's a real "thing" that's actually worth discussing

until we kill or expel all niggers, we can't have high speed rail, period. the engineering doesn't matter. the finances don't matter. the politics don't matter. the technology doesn't matter. the only thing that matters on this topic is whether or not niggers exist

it's not worth considering, analyzing, talking about, etc, until niggers are no longer in this country, and you just look like a retard if you're taking this topic seriously

how is this even a discussion at all?

If Acela were not a huge pile of shits that would actually make a difference for a bunch of business trips and modest vacations and would make the roads more usable for deliveries and local trips. Anywhere between Maine and DC is a stupid flight because you lose all the time savings fucking around with badly located airports operated by sullen morons. So people drive and sit in traffic for hours and then you have to park and the whole thing is shitty and expensive. And the whole way you are passing through hordes of local proles trying to pick up pizza at the next exit down the highway who are a constant threat to rear end you or merge blindly. If the point of your trip is to do something specific in another metro area, you don’t need a car when you arrive. If you are doing something like a week out in the country, rental car infrastructure is a much easier problem to solve than unfucking 95 or our airports.

Rails are one problem. Also has to share small number of tracks with many freight trains, which means that once the schedule gets a little bit off track everything is fucked. Also the tunnels under the Hudson are perpetually on the verge of massive failure which necessitates constant repairs, more delays and cancellations. Also the rolling stock is shit because no one is going to buy a sweet Euro or Jap train to run slowly on shitty rails. And the workforce is a bunch of lazy government union types who are totally protected in Congress. And the trains are crowded because there is nevertheless lots of demand in this area and it subsidizes even worse Amtrak ops elsewhere in the country. Other than that, everything is great.

airports are easier to get to than urban train stations for the vast majority of people in most metro areas. it's better to drive to a suburban airport vs. having to drive into the middle of the city then deal with parking there.

Yup, getting to JFK, LaGuardia, Logan, Newark and Dulles are all joyous experiences. Super convenient and chill ways to travel. I love choosing among a 45 minute expensive taxi ride, paying for a week of parking with a good chance of coming back to a broken window, and switching trains to get on a plane.

Yes, I’d rather take one exit off a highway vs having to drive all the way into shithole mfh and pay out the ass for parking near grand central where my car will actually get vandalized.

Out of the 23m+ who live in the nyc metro area only 8m or so live in the actual city limits. That includes ppl who live in queens and states island and shit who would have an easier time getting to the airports. Rail is a stupid wet dream for a small minority of urban faggots.

No one cares about anyone who lives in Queens or Staten Island. When we have high speed rail I will never again return to either place. Manhattan, Westchester, Connecticut and maybe 10% of Brooklyn are relevant here.

Portland only has 70,000 people and it's 100 miles from Boston. Not worth it.

Richmond is interesting because if you do that, then you almost might as well just keep going to Raleigh, Charlotte, and Atlanta.

Rail is bullshit. Costs as much as flying but if way slower. The only reason trains are competitive with air travel is because air travel is dragged down by the wait time of the security necessary to prevent Muslims from blowing up planes.

hasn't this been analyzed to death? rail systems need to be optimized to high-speed or slow-freight. although the US could have had reasonable high-speed corridors from Richmond to Boston and from LA to SF, almost nowhere else in the US does high-speed make sense. on the other hand, slow-freight makes fantastic sense for coal and ag for most of the country, especially when that connects to the Mississippi. so basically we have the system we need.

otoh, the hyperloop idea was intriguing for DC-NY and LA-SF. but high-speed rail? no.
