Once this one got to trial, they should have changed their tune. Rowley's point about Starbucks saying it's policy is it doesn't matter what happens after they hand a customer the drink was either a lie by Rowley (that the defense should have objected to) or a huge misstep by Starbucks. |

It's not like the NFL, there's no video replay of whether the runner had possession before the ball came out. Unless they have video evidence of the employee handing him the thing without pressing it all the way in, it's a he-said she-said.
Now imagine Starbucks being like yeah once we pass off our drinks to the customer even if an hour later they reheat it on the stove and burn themselves doing something stupid, it's on us!
We have no idea what the material facts are and never will. Some guy spilled a hot drink on himself and it happened at a Starbucks location. Sucks for Starbucks, they were going down no matter what. But I can see some lawyers shrugging and going how the fuck is this our fault.
It's the job of Rowley types to nail these guys to the cross because it's financially beneficial to them to do so. They get paid enormous sums to make Fortune 500 companies look bad. That's all it is, it's just a game to these people. |

Defense lawyers and corporations have no idea how to value a case and don't understand that juries will award huge amounts of money in cases like this. He called Nick the day before trial and Nick went to court, tried the case in 3 days and got like a 2 or 3 million dollar verdict on a garbage case for him. Was 180.
